The Psychology of Wellness - Part 2
Winterheadshot
Hey everyone, did you try to do some meditating as prescribed in the part 1 of this series?

If you did, (and you really should or the rest of this isn't going to make much sense) then you probably have a little more insight into the way your mind works.

As I discussed before, when you sit quietly and watch your thought-stream ripple past, you'll find that underneath your normal veneer you're really quite a nutcase. What a mess it is inside your skull! Memories from high-school will butt up against tomorrow's shopping list. Past rejections will sting again, and imagined future accomplishments will swell you with pride....

Day 8 is when "PCP proper" kicks in. PCP'rs open their "Day 8" e-mail from Patrick, glance at their daily allotted portion size, and then make a series of faces displaying surprise, outrage, disgust and just general WTF?!? The portions are large. More then we have been eating before starting the PCP and certainly a lot more then the first week in which we eat half of what we normally do. WHY? Why is this? Because the PCP is not only about losing fat but gaining muscle and that muscle needs energy to grow and that form of energy is... more

As of today I feel amazing. Well maybe as of this week I feel amazing. The PCP workout is more of a morning routine now and if I miss my routine, I can feel it both emotionally or physically. Sure its not great waking up at 5:00am everyday leaving behind the gorgeous blonde that is still fast asleep but as soon as I start jump-roping or running I instantly feel better. I really notice a difference in my muscle tone now and I can see improvements almost daily. Having this visual motivation is encouraging and I cant wait to see... more

...I thought it was kind of funny:) So in all seriousness, day 8 definitely kicked PCP up a notch or two (or ten!) From the second I looked at my alloted diet I knew it would require discipline. Not so much in the sense that I have to discipline myself to eat only these non-processed, non-salted foods, but more so that I have to weigh each portion and figure out enough recipes so that I won't die of boredom. For my carbs for breakfast and dinner I had my all bran cereal (with almond milk). I think that's a pretty... more

I have found a new appreciation, nay love, for fruit. I used to eat copious amounts of sugary snacks each day that real fruit seemed so dull compared with them. Cutting out the sugar has allowed my tongue and tastebuds to delight in nectarines, pears, clementines, bananas, oranges, apples, mangoes and plums. Each one is a treat to eat and I look forward to eating fruit. And all thanks to the PCP!... more

Well - reflections on my indulgence ... Overall - both a disappointment and a pleasure. Let me explain. First of all, thus far I have had no side-effects from my indulgence, unless you count general fatigue from staying up too late which is really just my own fault. Second of all ... where I was once a cheap date, now I'm a "practically free" date. I got a little buzz going on half a glass of wine. Thirdly, the indulgence both was and was not all I'd built it up to be in my head. I enjoyed it, and it... more
